Pro Torrent Frequently Asked Questions

How do I download?

In order to download torrent files you need torrent software like uTorrent you can download this from uTorrent Download. When you have downloaded and installed uTorrent you can set the folder where you want your downloaded files to be saved by; opening uTorrent, click on the options tab then preferences. Once the popup box appears click on directories and there you can set where you wish active torrents and completed downloads to be stored on your computer.

Once you have uTorrent installed and you have set your directory you need to browse Pro Torrent and find the torrent files you wish to download.

1. Click download this torrent or the download image

2. A small pop up box will appear asking you to open or save the torrent file. Click open with uTorrent. Your torrent will now start downloading.

3 The download will appear in the Downloading tab in uTorrent while it's in progress. Completed downloads will appear in Completed tab.

4. Find your file, (The directory you saved them to) then click to watch or listen with the likes of windows media play, Divx player or burn to disc. That's it!

Always try to upload at least as much as you download. Thats the way to keep the bittorrent network alive. Having a share rating above 1.0 means you have uploaded more than you have downloaded, which is good. In this case 0.000, which is bad. But when you have 100 %, just wait and more peers might connect. If there hasn't been any new peers for a few days, you may disconnect even though your rating is bad.

If you need to shut down your computer, you have to open the torrent again and save to the exact same place for resuming.

µTorrent finished downloading, but now it says it's Seeding. What does that mean?

Seeding is where you leave your BitTorrent client open after you've finished your download to help distribute it (you distribute the file while downloading, but it's even more helpful if you continue to distribute the full file even after you have finished downloading). Chances are that most of the data you got was from seeds, so help give back to the community! It doesn't require much - µTorrent will continue seeding until the torrent is removed (right click the torrent, then hit Remove). Proper practice is to seed until the ratio of upload:download is at least 1.50.

How do I know that someone isn't sending out viruses on BitTorrent?

In short, you don't. You should treat something downloaded with BitTorrent just like any file downloaded from the internet - that is, if you don't trust the source of the file, then you should use caution when opening it. If the torrent offers comments, be sure to read those first. Pro Torrent always try to ensure clean downloads. But regardless of the comments, running a virus scan on the downloaded files is usually a good idea. µTorrent guarantees that the content you download is not altered from when the torrent was originally created, but if the source files used to create the torrent were already infected, this will provide no protection!
